New BMD Contracts

Optimising the defensive capability of the Ballistic Missile Defense system

Three US prime defence contractors will share as much as U$4.1 billion to help develop technologies to enable US ballistic missile defence (BMD) systems to defeat advanced missile threats like decoys and manoeuvering warheads. Officials of the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in Huntsville, AL/USA announced five-year contracts Tuesday to Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon to develop advanced BMD techniques.

The three companies will provide autonomous acquisition and persistent precision tracking and discrimination to optimise the defensive capability of the BMD system and counter evolving threats. Each company will receive at least $10,000, and will compete for orders collectively worth as much as $4.1 billion.

These three companies will do the work primarily at their own facilities, and should be finished by July 2023. No task orders or delivery orders are being issued at this time. The three awardees of this multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract will compete for each order.

This contract was competitively procured via publication on the Federal Business Opportunities website with three proposals received.
