NATO and non-NATO States Order from RDM
Rheinmetall announced two new orders for its artillery ammunition range of products on 2 February: around €40 million of propellant charges for an international customer and €17 million for Assegai 155mm munitions from a NATO member state.
Both orders have been placed with subsidiary company Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM), whose Assegai range of 155mm indirect fire munitions can be fired from any NATO compatible system, including the PzH 2000. “As a systems maker, we work constantly to improve our cutting-edge technologies so that we can provide our customers’ soldiers with the very best, most reliable solutions possible”. stated Jan-Patrick Helmsen, Managing Director at RDM.
The Assegai family contributed to Rheinmetall’s 2019 success in setting a new record range for 155mm artillery – 76km – using the new Extended Range Charge from subsidiary company Nitrochemie AG. RDM is now working on other future artillery technologies. For example, the rocket motor in conventional 155mm Assegai projectiles is being improved. In addition to this, a new development is on the way that will boost the maximum range to over 155 kilometres.
