National Police and Naval Aviation Both Receive Additional Aircraft
The Uruguayan National Police has received a single Robinson R-66 helicopter from the Ministry of the Interior, purchased (complete with searchlight) for $1.2 million (€1.1 million). It will join three R-44 aircraft the force has for patrol duties in Montevideo.
In addition, Naval Aviation has taken delivery of a second-hand Bell OH-58 KIOWA, acquired in Canada last year from a private user in Quebec. It was originally built for the US Army in 1971.
Uruguayan Naval Aviation is slowly recovering its capacities, after experiencing the worst operational period in its history over the last several years. Work is now underway on the complete overhaul of the force’s main aircraft, the Beechcraft B200T SUPER KING AIR.
