Reduced Load and Enhanced Capability for Secure Comms
Spectra Group’s SlingShot communications tool now has additional features aimed at reducing load and boosting capability. Enhancements include new power options and launch of the Test Loop Translator (TLT) variant, an L-band simulator to allow full online testing without access to a live satellite channel.
The compact unit converts in-service VHF and UHF tactical radios to L-band for robust, reliable and cost-effective Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) Communications on the Move (COTM), using Inmarsat’s L-TAC satellite service. The new power upgrade introduces a universal power supply that streamlines the system, with more flexible power supply options and intelligent power delivery plus an enhanced troubleshooting light reporting system. There is also an AA battery cassette available to power a full manpack system.
Company CEO Simon Davies said: “New power options for SlingShot deliver increased flexibility and even simpler configuration…. As the nature of conflict changes and high-tempo, short duration, deployments become the norm, we know the onus is on us to ensure all our systems are designed for ease of use and reliability, and ideally suited to the fast-moving modern battlefield.”
Around 2,000 SlingShot units have been sold since its launch in 2013 to key users which include special forces and more than 15 armies on five continents.
