Navantia Appoints New President

Future Features New Strategic Plan

SEPI, the Spanish state-owned enterprise that controls Navantia, announced the appointment of Esteban García Vilasánchez as President of the shipbuilding and naval engineering firm on 7 April, replacing José Manuel Revuelta Lapique, who had requested his retirement.

Vilasánchez began his professional career in 1990 in Navantia’s offshore business area, becoming Director of Maintenance at Ferrol-Fene in 2004. In 2009 be was appointed Director of the Ferrol-Fene shipyard, managing the Norwegian programme, the F-100 frigates and the LHD JUAN CARLOS I for the Spanish Navy and the Australian LHD programme. In 2012 he became Industrial Director of Navantia and then Director of Programmes, a position he has held until today.

The newly appointed president will have to address the new Strategic Plan for Navantia, building on a period in which new contracts have been won and a transformation plan developed, which will now be integrated with the Strategic Plan. SEPI is particularly keen to ensure that the company continues to improve its efficiency and sustainability, as well as improving and enhancing the economic impact it has on the areas in which its shipyards are located (Ferrol, Fene, Cadiz, Puerto Real, San Fernando and Cartagena).
