Alongside its partners and customers, the group stands ready to continue providing technological superiority through its wide range of solutions.
Naval Group, a long-term strategic partner of Brazilian Navy
In 2009, within the framework of the French-Brazilian strategic defense cooperation agreement, the Brazilian Navy chose Naval Group for its “Programa de desenvolvimento de Submarinos”, the ProSub program.
Through an extensive transfer of technology, Naval Group is working with Brazil to build and operate four conventional Riachuelo-class submarines (Scorpène type) in a shipyard and naval base built in Itaguaí for this purpose. The first-of-class, the Riachuelo, was commissioned by the Brazilian Navy in September 2022, the second one, Humaitá, was commissioned in January 2024, the third one, Tonelero, was launched in March 2024, and the last Brazilian Scorpène submarine, Almirante Karam, is currently in production and will be launched end of 2025.
The F21 torpedo equips the Riachuelo-class submarines. Using state-of-the-art technologies and benefiting from Naval Group’s background of over 100 years in underwater weapons, the F21 features exceptional performances and fulfils stringent requirements: advanced self-guided mode, shallow and confined water capability and latest generation of countermeasures resistance.

She can be easily adapted to specific requirements of customers and the continuous improvement of the Scorpène ensures the seamless integration of the latest technology onboard.
