Naval Group/Fincantieri Alliance

Naval Group shares with MONS the benefits of an alliance with Naval Fincantieri

Since the announcements made by the French President and the Italian Council President during the Lyon summit last September, there has much debate over the deal between Naval Group and Fincantieri. Is it a merger? Is one of them in trouble? What could the two groups achieve if they worked together?

During MONS’ visit to their offices in Paris, Naval Group sought to dissipate some of the doubts: “It is not a merger it is an alliance. Stemming from the positive cooperation we had on the FREMM project, we realised that the two groups would be stronger together going for bids rather than going up against each other.” To establish the main points of the alliance, the two industry giants held a steering committee last October to establish a roadmap for their work together, which will be presented in June 2018.

The idea is to be able to then create joint ventures wherever is possible,” a spokesperson for Naval Group continued. “This could include submitting common bids, complementing each other’s research and development efforts, complementing each other’s equipment acquisitions, or establish common projects that respond to common requirements stated in both the Italian Defence White Paper and the French Military Programming Law.”
