Secretary General Will Remain in Post Till September 2022
On 28 March, NATO allies agreed to extend the mandate of Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg by a further two years, until 30 September 2022.
The allies expressed their support for the Secretary General’s work to adapt and modernise NATO, ensuring it remains fit for the future. Adaptation and modernisation are the two key elements of a transformation process to prepare the Atlantic Alliance for the geopolitical challenges and increasing uncertainties it faces over the coming decades.
Mr. Stoltenberg assumed his current post on 1 October 2014 and turned 60 years of age on 16 March 2019. He was Prime Minister of Norway from 2000-2001 and from 2005-2013.
