Joint Development with Tatra on Offer for Multiple Missions

During MSPO 2022 Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) presented a light 4×4 designed jointly with Czech firm Tatra. The latter company, which in the past has supplied Poland with chassis for the Dana 152mm self-propelled howitzer, in this case provided chassis and drive (T3C-928-90 diesel turbocharged, air-cooled engine/Cummins ISL diesel turbocharged, liquid-cooled engine with an Allison 4500SP gearbox), while project leader HSW was responsible for cabin and equipment.  The vehicle is based on the Patriot II armoured tactical vehicle.

Cooperation between HSW and Tatra was forged during MSPO 2020. While the vehicle debuted last year, this time it has received an official name – the Waran. It has been offered to several branches of the Polish military, particularly the rocket and artillery forces (WRiA), which is seeking new command vehicles for the WR-40 Langusta rocket launcher and Kryl 155mm howitzer systems. They are intended to replace aging WD-43 wheeled vehicles, based on the UAZ-469B. New vehicles are also needed to replace the multi-purpose Honkers are used as command vehicles for Dana.

Waran is being promoted promoted as a versatile solution, which can be used as a transport vehicle, for liaison duties, reconnaissance, medical evacuation, command operations or tank hunting. It has a crew of two and can take up to six passengers. It is also being offered for export, boasts a top speed of 110km/h and a road range of 650km: the possibility of modification to a 6×6 configuration is also an option.
