MSPO 2020: Bell Widens Offer to Poland

Seeking Involvement in KRUK, PERKOZ and KONDOR Programmes

During MSPO 2020 in Kielce, Bell is presenting its entire range of helicopters, offering multiple potential solutions to Poland’s armed forces. Director of Global Military Sales and Strategy, Joel Best, explained the company wants to be involved in all Poland’s major modernization efforts, which include the KRUK, PERKOZ and KONDOR helicopter programmes.

KRUK is the programme that seeks to find a replacement for its ageing Mi-24D/V HIND Soviet-era assault/attack helicopters, for which Bell has been offering the AH-1Z VIPER.

The main goal of the PERKOZ programme is to replace versatile yet ageing post-Soviet Mi-2 light helicopters. Here, Bell is offering a lightly-armed Bell 407, recently purchased by the Polish Police in its GXi variant as a replacement for Mi-2s. The first unit, which was handed over in early September after an upgrade in Prague, is being shown at the exhibition. The Polish authorities have yet to publish detailed requirements regarding PERKOZ, which means Bell might ultimately offer a different solution – perhaps even two separate types. Best confirmed that Bell is “able to meet all requirements of the Polish government.” This may include the 505 JET RANGER X, which also debuted at MSPO this year, being promoted as an aircraft for advanced pilot training, both civilian and military.

KONDOR is a modernisation project aimed at acquiring new multirole ASW helicopters for the Polish Navy. The maximum take-off weight is expected not to exceed 6.5t, against which Bell is offering its 412 model. The new helicopters, of which four to eight are to be procured, will replace Kaman SH-2G SUPER SEASPRITEs. Among Bell’s competitors is Leonardo’s PZL-Świdnik, which offers the AW159.
