Persistent Systems’ MPU-5 tactical radio receives new C-band module

Persistent Systems released a new module for its MPU-5 tactical radio. This new module enables the radio to work in the upper reaches of C-band (four gigahertz/GHz to 8GHz) and this is particularly important, a statement from the company provided to MONCh noted, as, “the RF spectrum is becoming heavily utilised and large portions are being sold off (by governments to commercial communications providers). The C-band provides relief from crowded spectrum bands such as 2.4 gigahertz where throughput is impacted by many users.”

Another benefit of the C-band module is that such communications, “have reduced restrictions of power and available spectrum internationally, allowing the MPU-5 to be used in more countries, with more throughput and distance.”

Moreover, the firm continued that much of the upper C-band is “public access” meaning that there is no licence required to transmit in parts of this waveband. Persistent Systems continued that it is now taking orders for the C-band module and although demurring from providing customer details, it did add that it is witnessing significant interest from the mining, agricultural, government, intelligence, defence and homeland security communities.
