Photonics group Jenoptik has signed a framework agreement with Rheinmetall for optical systems and components to be delivered between 2020 and 2025, the Jena-based company announced on 2 April.

The agreement, valued at “a high single-digit million euro amount,” according to Jenoptik, calls for a variety of specialised, sophisticated infrared optics, including custom-developed high quality and precision devices for use in armoured and tactical vehicles in a variety of applications, including providing better situational awareness for infantry dismounts.

Jenoptik is a leading manufacturer of optical components and systems for the infrared spectral range, focusing on OEM solutions tailored to individual customer requirements. Here, the company draws on many years of broad-based expertise in the manufacture of optics and their coatings, to protect and improve the quality of such optical elements.
