Elbit Systems announced on 8 May it has been awarded a contract to provide the Israeli Ministry of Defence (MoD) with satellite-on-the-move (SOTM) systems over the next two years.

The contract is for the company’s ELSAT 2100 SOTM series systems, which allow high data rate broadband capabilities to be made available for ground vehicles on the move. With small footprints and advanced tracking capabilities that provide for seamless communications even in difficult terrain, the systems can be installed on a range of platforms and allow operators to achieve on-the-move data communications anywhere, anytime, based on use of available communications satellites.

“The SOTM contract is an important milestone in our military communication activity on the whole and in the satellite communication activity in particular. The Israeli Defence Force is an innovative technologically advanced military, and I trust that additional customers will follow and select our systems,” Yehuda Vered, General Manager of Elbit Systems’ Kand & C4I Division, commented. “The modern battlefield requires very reliable capabilities of high rate data transfer anytime, anywhere, and our SOTM communications solution meets this requirement.”
