Rationalisation of Identification Requirements for all Government Departments

Morpho South Africa, a Safran Identity & Security company, has been selected by the government of Botswana to provide a single multi-biometric platform to support the identification requirements of all its departments and agencies.

The Botswana Police Service, the lead agency, has contracted for an upgrade and rationalisation for its legacy Automated Fingerprint Identification Service (AFIS) platforms into a single, multi-biometric, multi-functional new-generation platform. The new platform will use both fingerprint and facial recognition systems and is the first step in rationalisation of cross-government information and communication technologies.

As well as engineering (and maintaining for three years) one of the most advanced and complex systems of its type, Morpho will also deliver quantities of its LIVESCAN and CARDSCAN stations, as well as mobile handheld scanning devices. “We have proven our capacity to provide critical products and maintenance and we are now going to furnish a total integration of multiple biometric technologies in a single platform. Not only is it more cost effective but also it is a vital facilitator of increasing national security and enabling e-government services,” Paul Jeremias, Managing Director of Morpho South Africa, commented.
