IWI Supplying Additional Rifles Under New Contract
Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), an SK Group company, is to supply the Israeli MoD with thousands more Micro-Tavor (X95) assault rifles under a fresh contract, the company announced on 25 June. This order follows other IWI contracts for the IDF, including the Negev LMG and the 40mm grenade launcher, which can be mounted on the Micro-Tavor.
In active duty service with the IDF as well as the reserve services since 2006, the bullpup-configured Micro-Tavor offers users an ergonomic, short firearm with a long barrel, giving it superior ballistics compared to other weapons. The current order is for the 5.56x45mm calibre Micro-Tavor with 380 and 419mm barrel lengths. It features M-1913 Picatinny rails, enabling the mounting of essential accessories such as sights, lights, and visual and IR illuminators necessary for modern warfare.
“This is a fruitful cooperation between the company and the IDF that has been in place for many years, and which reflects the Ministry of Defence’s confidence in SK Group’s solutions in the light weapons sector. The Micro-Tavor advanced design and technology was developed in collaboration with the elite units of [the IDF]. During its development, every technological and ergonomic aspect was taken into consideration [and] today it is the standard IDF assault rifle,” commented Ronen Hamudot, EVP Marketing & Sales for SK Group.
