Aselsan Signs Serial Production Contract for “Missile Hunters”

Air Defence Fire Control System (FCS), Modernised 35mm Towed Guns & 35mm Airburst Ammunition

Aselsan recently announced it signed a serial production contract with the Turkish Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) for its Air Defence Fire Control System (FCS), 35mm Modernised Towed Guns and 35mm Airburst Ammunition (ATOM).

The systems to be produced under this contract, intended for the Turkish Army and Air Force (TuAF), “merit ‘Missile Hunter’ rank with live firing trials conducted on 1 December 2015,” according to the company. During these live fire trials, the effectiveness of Aselsan systems against air-to-ground missiles was successfully demonstrated in a highly challenging test scenario.

Serial production of the KORKUT Self Propelled Air Defence Gun (SPAAG)  is ongoing successfully since 2016. KORKUT is developed for the effective air defence of mechanized troops and mobile units. It features firing on the move capability with its stabilised and unmanned gun turret. KORKUT also features the capability of firing 35mm ATOM in addition to conventional type 35mm munition. KORKUT, together with ATOM, highly improves the effectiveness of ground based air defence against modern air threats including air-to-ground missiles, cruise missiles and drones.

The KORKUT SPAAG project covers the procurement of 42 Weapon System Vehicle (SSA, to replace existing aged M-42A1/A2 DUSTER WALKER systems) and 14 C2 Vehicle (KKA), all based on the FNSS ACV-30 Armoured Combat Vehicle chassis. After delivery and successful qualification of the initial systems, a series production contract for KORKUT was signed between the SSM and Aselsan in May 2016.

FCS is designed for effective low-altitude air defence of military bases and critical assets, controlling the contracted 35mm towed air defence guns and the Low Altitude Air Defence Missile Launching System being developed by Aselsan under the HISAR programme.
