£20 Million Contract, Service Entry by 2023
MilDef, a Cardiff-based manufacturer, has received a £20 million (€22 million) subcontract from Rheinmetall and RBSL to supply crewstations PCs, servers and ethernet switches for the UK MoD’s BOXERV armoured vehicle programme, the MoD announced on 21 December.
Britain re-joined the BOXER programme in 2018, subsequently committing £2.8bn for over 500 vehicles in four variants: an Infantry Carrier; a Specialist Carrier; a Command Vehicle; and an Ambulance.
Much of the fleet will be built in Telford and Stockport by main contractors RBSL and WFEL, supported by a nationwide supply chain that will secure around 1,000 jobs nationwide and create an ambitious UK apprenticeship scheme. The aim is to have the first vehicles in service in 2023.
