RH5210 First of New Range
Mercury Systems, Inc., has launched the RH5210 – the first of a new series of integrated power supplies with radiation hardening to enable effective operation in space.
The RH5120 has been developed to support the Zilinx XQRKU060 field programmable gate array. Described as the first of a new range of “ultra-compact, radiation-hardened, multi-output power supplies,” the device has been optimised for radiation-sensitive applications such as satellites and their launchers, remote-controlled robotic devices, and any other electronic system liable to be exposed to radiation. The technology is expected to become more sought-after as a wider range of businesses seek access to space-based capabilities.
“New satellites equipped with breakthrough digital payload electronics require high-density, clean power to support advanced FPGAs required for low-latency, on-orbit edge processing,” Tom Smelker, VP/GM of Mercury’s microsystems division stated. “Our new RHS5210 power module replaces several larger, standalone power supplies in typically half the space, freeing up valuable payload capacity for other critical electronics. It’s another example of our how we partner with our customers and semiconductor companies to deliver commercial technology to the aerospace and defense industry at the speed of innovation.”
