A Weapon with a View

Meprolight Electro-Optics and Thermal & Night Vision Sights in the Spotlight

Meprolight Ltd., a member of the SK Group, is a leading manufacturer of electro-optical (EO) systems, thermal and night vision equipment, self-illuminated sights and laser range finder systems for military, law enforcement and civil applications. At Eurosatory 2018, MONCh had the chance to get the latest scoop on the companies hottest offerings in EO systems and thermal & night vision sights.

MEPRO NYX-200, an innovative, compact and lightweight multispectral weapon sight and hand-held device, is available in two configurations: thermal channel with digital night camera or thermal channel with digital day camera (1280×640 low-light or day camera). The combination of thermal channel (high resolution 640×480, 17μ thermal core) and digital night camera (DNC) enables enhanced situational awareness with maximum view at any level of darkness in any environment. The thermal channel can be used in total darkness and through fog and camouflage. The sight’s digital night vision is optimised for Close Quarters Battle (CQB), face recognition and more. For more on this great sight, please see story here.

The company’s MEPRO MicroRDS is the latest addition to the MEPRO red dot sight (RDS) family. It is a compact, rugged, and energy-efficient sight with a clearly-defined red dot for all light conditions, and a large display window. Providing thousands of operating hours while utilising a single CR2032 battery, the micro sight ensures rapid target acquisition with both eyes open, and offers various easily switchable reticle brightness intensities. For pistols, it serves as the main aiming sight, offering fast target acquisition at close distances. MicroRDS fits a variety of weapons thanks to its patented quick release mounting (MEPRO MicroRDS adaptor). The adaptor allows the use of an optical red dot sight alongside a backup tritium night sight. Additional info on the MicroRDS here

MEPRO M5 RDS (known in the US market as Mepro RDS PRO V.2) is an energy-efficient, compact sight that provides thousands of operating hours while utilising a single “AA” commercial battery. Featuring battle-proven LED technology and rugged MIL-STD design, the sight assures reliability under the harshest environmental conditions. With its large display window and clearly-defined red dot, MEPRO M5 ensures rapid target acquisition with both eyes open. Offering numerous reticle brightness intensities (two day and four night brightness positions and numerous easily switchable reticle brightness intensities), the MEPRO M5 suits every tactical scenario. To facilitate night operations and long-range target engagement, the MEPRO M5 is compatible with night vision goggles (NVG) as well as with magnifying scopes. Its human engineering allows positioning of NVGs and magnifiers close to the sight’s optics with no decrease in the field-of-view and without compromising convenient switch operation.

According to Benny Kokia, Meprolight Vice President Marketing and Sales, “some of the most popular optical sights with a display window and Bullseye reticle consume high levels of energy and, therefore, require frequent battery changes. We have met this challenge with our new Bullseye version’s exceptional energy-efficiency that significantly extends the operation time, while using a large transparent display window for rapid acquisition of targets. This is a unique sight that poses a new challenge to our Tier 1 competitors, and we expect it to become very popular among our military, law enforcement and civilian customers.

The MEPRO M5 BULLSEYE is an additional version of the MEPRO M5 RDS, with a red or green bullseye reticle that allows extended operating time while providing quick acquisition of a target using a large display window.

The MEPRO MOR is a compact, rugged, multi-purpose, multi-activated red dot reflex sight with integrated laser pointers. Designed for quick, instinctive, accurate shooting, it has a 30mm diameter lens, ensuring rapid target acquisition with either one or both eyes open and quick transition between long-range and close-quarter encounters. MEPRO MOR’s large field of view enables effective operation in all weather, temperature, and light conditions. The passive self-illuminated system provides integrated day/night operation, LED for extra bright modes, two laser pointers – visible (Red or Green) and IR, and multiple mounting options. The lasers are operated by PTL in two modes – momentary and continuous. The sight is suited for use with 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm caliber light weapons and light machine guns. MEPRO MOR with a green laser pointer was introduced at MILIPOL 2017 (story here). The company offers MEPRO MOR in three configurations: IR and green pointers IR and red pointers and red and green pointers.

The MEPRO MX3-T is a compact, lightweight, and rugged magnifying scope with a wide Field of View (FoV), designed to accurately and economically improve the shooter’s performance. This scope has 3x magnification to enhance the precision, range, and effectiveness of reflex sights, such as MEPRO 21 and MEPRO MOR, by extending the shooting range without re-zeroing the sights. This scope attaches to MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail, behind a reflex sight, and features a quick release adapter. The adapter has a low weight, quick pull back mechanism. When not in use, it is folded over to the right side and can be easily flipped back into place when the shooter needs to engage targets at longer distances. It is simple to attach, does not interfere with firing, and is MIL-STD-810 qualified. For more on this great scope, please see story here.
