Significantly Expands Group Capabilities in Aerospace, Defence and Energy Markets
Meggitt plc formally opened facility expansions in Vietnam and China in late September, marking a significant increase of both capability and capacity in Asia.
Opening ceremonies were conducted at the two facilities led by CEO, Tony Wood with the Chairman, Sir Nigel Rudd, officially opening the expanded Vietnam site and a new Polymers & Composites product line in China. Both events were attended by a number of major customers, including senior leaders from COMAC and Airbus, as well as dignitaries including the British Consul to Vietnam, Ian Gibbons.
The new product line in China will manufacture a range of polymer seals for aerospace customers, accounting for 50% of the total manufacturing output of Meggitt China. Building on 22 years of success in Vietnam, the facility in Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh, has been doubled in size to 120,000sq ft and will become a global centre of excellence and a low-cost manufacturing and supply chain base. The facility offers a broad range of capabilities for the aerospace and energy markets, producing items including motors, position sensors, transformers, electronic assemblies and electrical harnesses, for customers including Airbus and Boeing.
“The expansion of our activities in both Vietnam and China significantly advances Meggitt’s access to both customers and highly competitive manufacturing and supply chain capabilities in Asia. By investing for growth, not just in Vietnam and China, but around the world, we are ensuring that we continue to deliver highly innovative and competitive products and sub-systems for aerospace, defence and energy customers worldwide,” commented Mr Wood.
