Cooling for Upgraded Electronics and Crew
Meggitt Defense Systems (Irvine, CA) has been awarded a $22 million (€20 million) contract by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) to provide an unspecified number of its Thermal Management System (TMS) for the ABRAMS main battle tank programme, the company announced in late April.
The TMS provides active cooling for the upgraded electronics in the current versions of the ABRAMS, as well as for the crew. The newly announced contract represents the second half of the ABRAMS ARC1 contract that was awarded to Meggitt late last year for a similar number of TMS. Prior to this award, the company had manufactured over 2,250 TMS for the ABRAMS programme.
Meggitt Defense Systems also supplies auxiliary cooling and power systems to GDLS for the ABRAMS programme in Michigan and for the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) programme in London, Ontario.
