Integrated live-fire and virtual weapons training systems Update
Meggitt Training Systems recently completed the System Verification Test (SVT) and Site Operational Test (SOT) for the US Army’s next-generation small-arms trainers, obtaining certification as the Program of Record (POR) for Army small-arms training. Completion of these tests confirms that Meggitt has met all requirements set forth by the Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) to deliver the Engagement Skills Trainer (EST) II system to active US Army, National Guard and Reserve units worldwide.
“The completion of EST II testing marks a significant milestone in a long-standing relationship between the US Army and Meggitt,” Jeff Murphy, President, Meggitt Training Systems, said. “This summer, Meggitt will commence delivery of the first EST II systems, which are fully compatible with the Army’s existing arsenal of simulated weapons and current training doctrine.”
Meggitt was originally awarded the $99 million, five-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract in 2014, and deliveries of 890+ ESTII systems will occur during the next 18 months at locations worldwide. As the Certified POR, the system will train new and experienced soldiers in marksmanship, collective scenarios and judgmental video scenarios. Each mode provides critical training based on the skill level of the soldier or unit. “First delivery of the world’s most capable small-arms trainer is a major milestone for Meggitt Training Systems and our Army customer,” Murphy continued. “We’re enabling faster, more efficient combat readiness. As a result, we expect significant interest at AUSA in EST II from foreign military delegations with similar requirements.”
“Meggitt is delivering on our commitment to ‘best value’ through 3D marksmanship, automatic coaching, a tablet interface, enhanced graphics and compatibility with existing Army simulated weapons,” Mark Parr, EST Programme Manager, told Mönch. “The ESTII provides advanced tools that enable instructors to provide efficient training for current and future challenges.”
According to Meggitt at AUSA 2016, the EST II can use both VBS and KRYTEK as graphic engines, both with moving eyepoints.
Earlier this year, Meggitt Training Systems announced an $1.49 million contract from the Australian Defence Force’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group. Under terms of the contract, Meggitt will manufacture, install, maintain and operate additional 81mm simulated mortars at multiple locations in support of Regular Army Infantry Battalions and Army Reserve Light Batteries. The 81 mm simulated mortars will be used to train and test mortar men, command post operators, fire controllers and commanders in their duties with regard to mortar operations, tactics, techniques and procedures. Deliveries are expected to occur from May to June 2017 with installation to follow shortly thereafter.
Furthermore, Meggitt Training Systems’ FATS 100e received inquiries from international customers.
