Company has Already Supplied 2,480 ABRAMS Thermal Management Systems
Meggitt Defense Systems, Inc., (MDSI) announced on 29 March it has received a not-to-exceed $37 million contract from General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) to provide the Auxiliary Cooling and Power System (ACPS) for the ABRAMS main battle tank programme.
The ACPS provides both auxiliary cooling and exportable power to the tank when the main turbine engine is shut down and the contract supports a recent US government award. In parallel, MDSI has produced over 2,480 thermal management systems (TMS), which provides active cooling for electronics and crew, for the ABRAMS programme: this award is the first for this special equipment on a GDLS platform. Meggitt also supplies the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system for the GDLS Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) programme in Canada, and was recently awarded the contract for a future ABRAMS upgrade.
