Mechanix Wear Brings the Heat

Mechanix Wear’s Cold Weather gloves

Exhibiting at SHOT Show 2018, Mechanix Wear is bringing the heat! Figuratively. When the mercury drops the body fights to retain heat. Heat retention is critical in cold work environments, but not just any winter work glove will do. Mechanix Wear’s Cold Weather gloves provide a range of protection from light insulation to heavyweight 3M THINSULATE and waterproof glove technology so the wearer is always one step ahead of the cold.

When it comes to choosing the right set of specialty cold weather work gloves or traditional winter gloves, it’s important to understand how cold weather gloves are tested and rated for use. Heat retention is critical in cold working environments especially with prolonged exposure to the elements, but not just any cold weather glove will do. The blood in your body is sensitive to temperature changes of as little as .5 degrees Celsius! So, evaluating the type of work and severity of weather in your region will help determine the level of protection you need.

CE European Glove Standard EN 511 specifies the requirements and test methods for gloves which protect against convective and conductive cold down to -50 °C. This cold can be linked to the climatic conditions or an industrial activity. The specific value of the different performance levels are decided by the special requirements for each class of risk or the special areas of application. Next to the FastFit Insulated and the Original Insulated, the Winter Impact and the Winter Impact Pro stand out the most.

The entire Winter Impact glove is lined by comfortable micro-fleece and C40 3M THINSULATE traps warm air to help regulate your body temperature in the bitter cold. The Winter Impact’s rugged nylon outer features EVA foam knuckle padding to protect the back of your hand from unexpected impact and abrasions during cold weather work (accordion knuckle guard with EVA foam padding extends to the index and middle finger). Stay connected to your touchscreen devices, without removing your gloves, with AX Double Connect on your index finger and thumb. The palm features rugged Armortex palm and thumb reinforcement, providing abrasion resistance and making the Winter Impact an essential cold weather tool. Furthermore it features water-resistant nylon back-of-hand protects against the element, overlapping palm construction reducing material bunching when operating hand tools, embossed fingertip pattern improving gripping power and a removable spring clip keeping the gloves organised for easy storage.

The Winter Impact Pro features all of the above (C40 3M THINSULATE Insulation, rugged Armortex thumb reinforcement panel, AX Double Connect touchscreen compatible index finger and thumb etc, see above), while a Hipora  (fabric made by Kolon Industries) waterproof liner keeps your hands dry and provides critical wind-resistance in rough weather. The Winter Impact Pro’s rugged outer features Thermoplastic Rubber pinch-point fingertip protection and an Armortex knuckle guard to reduce impact injuries. Abrasion-resistant Armortex reinforces the fingertips and conceals 5mm EVA palm padding to reduce hand fatigue while you work. It furthermore features full-length TPR finger guards provide pinch-point and impact protection.
