MBDA Wins £539 Million in UK MoD Contracts

Orders for METEOR, CAMM and SEA VIPER

On 21 April, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced it has placed orders worth a combined total of £539 million with MBDA for METEOR, SEA VIPER AND Common Anti-Air Modular Missile (CAMM) weapon systems.

As part of a £41 million contract, the METEOR AAM will arm the UK’s F-35B LIGHTNING II squadrons FROM 2024, providing the ability to engage high speed, long range targets. The weapon will also enter service on RAF TYPHOONs in 2018 and will be used on a range of missions including protecting the QUEEN ELIZABETH-class carriers.

A £175 million in-service support contract for the anti-air SEA VIPER system will ensure that the Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyers will continue to provide unparalleled fleet protection from air attack. Under the contract, the missiles will be maintained, repaired and overhauled as and when required to ensure continued capability.

The final £323 million contract is for the next-generation CAMM missile, which will provide the anti-air defence capability on the new Type 26 frigates, will be part of the SEA CEPTOR weapon system on the Type 23 frigate and will also replace the Army’s in service RAPIER system.
