MBDA Fires First MMP from IMPACT Turret

Cements Development of Turret Family

MBDA has fired an MMP missile from a remotely-operated turret on a 4×4 vehicle for the first time, the company announced on 27 January.

In the third iteration of the MMP firing campaign carried out at the French Canjuers base, the missile was fired in ‘fire-and-forget’ mode, engaging an armoured vehicle target at 3,500m range. Culminating in a direct hit, the test launch confirmed the precision of the aiming and lock-on for a long-range target, as well as the quality and robust nature of the guidance chain.

This test complements MBDA’s development activities on MMP and the IMPACT remotely-controlled turret, intended for light armoured vehicles. The combination meets the expectations of several industrial partners seeking to equip their vehicles with such capabilities. MBDA has developed IMPACT’s modular architecture to aid integration and to provide commonality with the MISTRAL ATLAS RC turret, with which it shares 80% of its components.

The development of a family of turrets simplifies integration, support and training activities for our customers. With this success we are increasingly demonstrating the suitability of the MMP system for the different expectations of the armed forces. MBDA was able to demonstrate the ease of integration of MMP onto a light turret, as it also proved with the integration and qualification of MMP on JAGUAR, which will be validated by a firing campaign at the beginning of this year,” stated the company’s Military Advisor, Francis Bordachar.
