Further Modification for MedEvac Role to Come
Following delivery of the first A321LR (long range) to the German Air Force during the ILA Berlin Airshow in June, Lufthansa Technik delivered the second aircraft on 17 August.
Both aircraft are available for parliamentary flight operations as well as troop transport on short-, medium, and long-haul routes, in which configuration passenger capacity is 136. Having subjected this second aircraft to an intensive testing and acceptance programme, the Luftwaffe has now completed the first phase of the modification project. Over the next year, Lufthansa Technik will further modify and certify both aircraft for the MedEvac role, under the second phase.
Three configurations will be available to make the aircraft’s medical role as flexible as possible, enabling the carriage of up to six intensive care patients or twelve moderately injured. The company will deliver 12 (plus two reserve) units of the Patiententransporteinheit Neuer Generation (PTE NG – next generation patient transport unit) to the Bundeswehr.
