Procurement by Fourth International Partner
Lockheed Martin announced on 14 August it has been awarded a $218 million contract y the US Army for production of the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) hardware for an international customer. With this procurement, HIMARS is now in the inventories of four international partners.
The contract calls for the delivery of 18 HIMARS launchers and appropriate associated equipment by December 2020. Production will take place at Lockheed Martin’s Camden, AR, Precision Fires Center of Excellence.
HIMARS is a lightweight mobile launcher, transportable via aircraft of the C-130 and larger classes for rapid deployment. It can fire Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) and Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) munitions. HIMARS consists of a launcher-loader module and a fire control system mounted on a five-ton truck chassis. A specialised armoured cab provides additional protection for the operating crew of three.
Lockheed Martin’s international partners continue to recognise the effectiveness and reliability of the HIMARS. Performance, interoperability, joint coalition operations and the added value of joint munitions procurement make HIMARS a sound option for nations seeking effective precision fires option for missions.
