Upgrades to LMT’s Family of Assault Rifles

Latest weapon accessories

Lewis Machine & Tool (LMT) promoted its latest weapon accessories at the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) in Tampa, FL/USA, 16-18 May.

Upgrades include ambidextrous controls for the MARS-L family of assault rifles, available in 5.56x45mm and .300 BLK calibres – a feature which has been integrated to respond to requirements from armed forces for soldiers to fire personal weapons in both left and right handed configurations.

MONS understands that some soldiers prefer to fire weapons left-handed, dependent upon not only person preference but also because of having a left master-eye. Additionally, should a soldier injure one hand or arm during an operation, the ability to fire a weapon from the other shoulder has been flagged as a requirement moving forward. Ambidextrous controls include magazine release catch; fire selector switch; and charging handle.

Additional upgrades included LMT’s DMR buttstock which was also displayed at LMT’s stand at the event alongside its range of small arms solutions. Designed to SOPMOD specifications, the DMR features a cheek rest for enhanced comfort and ‘a better shooting position’.

Cheek weld height and weight can be adjusted into a total of 45 different settings, a company official explained to MONS. The buttstock also features a SOPMOD rubber butt plate to reduce recoil effects; as well as a concealed rail for mono-pad attachment.

Finally, the DMR features four sling swivel sockets and is compatible with MIL-SPEC extension tubes, company officials added.

The DMR is available in multiple configurations, dependent upon rifle calibre. Options include the DMR308 and DMR556.
