Customer Service Agreement with Leonardo
Under a customer service agreement with Leonardo on behalf of the Italian Air Force, Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH is to overhaul 62 primary flight control actuators for the service’s Eurofighter aircraft over the next 18 months. The Air Force currently operates 96 Eurofighters.
Liebherr is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the Eurofighter programme and is responsible for development and production of the its fly-by-wire flight control system. “As an [OEM], we can offer our customers the most suitable overhaul programmes. With this signed performance-based logistics contract, which includes fixed repair prices and guaranteed turnaround times, we are providing Leonardo and the Italian Air Force a reliable planning basis, which is already standard for civil applications,” explains Christian Franz, the company’s Director of Customer Service.
Liebherr-Aerospace is involved in the Eurofighter programme in two product fields: flight control and landing gear. Since 2000, the company has been delivering the actuators for the primary fly-by-wire flight control system, as well as the air-brake actuator servo control. The engine-driven hydraulic pump and filter package units for the aircraft hydraulic system are also included in the scope of supply. The nose landing gear with steering unit and retraction actuator, as well as the struts for the main landing gear, are also manufactured in Lindenberg, in partnership with Safran Landing Systems.
