Leonardo to Expand Semiconductor Laser Manufacturing in Arizona

Exploiting a Leading Photonics Technology Hub

Leonardo Electronics US, Inc., is to expand its presence in Arizona, the company announced on 6 December. Present in the Tucson area through Lasertel since 2009, the company has now outgrown its facilities and intends to build a 120,000sqft semiconductor laser manufacturing plant in Innovation Park, Oro Valley. Construction is expected to begin early next year.

Currently employing around 200, the company anticipates adding some 170 additional jobs over the next five years, primarily in engineering, production, quality control, IT, HR, marketing, business development, purchasing and finance. Total capital investment will be approximately $100 million, resulting in a total economic impact of $374 million over the next 10 years.

This new larger facility will support our business growth across all key market segments. We ultimately selected Innovation Park in Oro Valley due to its proximity to our existing employee base and exceptional talent in the region, which is one of the leading photonics technology hubs in the country,” explained Matthew Keegan, President & CEO Leonardo Electronics US, Inc.
