Leonardo PicoSAR for North African CAMCOPTER User

Leonardo announced on 28 February that its PicoSAR Active Electronically-Scanned Array (AESA) radar has been selected by Schiebel to be integrated onto the CAMCOPTER S-100 UAS in service with the forces of a North African nation. To be used in border monitoring and anti-terrorism surveillance, the radars will be delivered and will enter service this year.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, PicoSAR has been procured by over 10 international customers and forms part of Leonardo’s portfolio of airborne surveillance and fire control radars. Schiebel has already selected the radar in support of a surveillance service contract and the two companies have recently demonstrated a multi-sensor suite including PicoSAR and Leonardo’s SAGE EW system on a UAS platform for British and Australian forces.

PicoSAR packages advanced AESA technology into a small and lightweight 10kg unit ideally suited for unmanned vehicles and for missions over both land and sea.
