SRT-400 for Secure Voice and Data Communications

Northrop Grumman has contracted Leonardo to supply its new HF radio system, the SRT-400, to equip the US Navy’s fleet of E-2D ADVANV+CED HAWKEYE airborne early warning and control aircraft, the company announced on 4 February.

Extensive R&D in airborne radio has led to the design and production of the SRT-400, a single side band system suitable for fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft. Patented technology reduces TX power consumption by more than 40% compared to previous designs, reducing heat dissipation and greatly improving reliability. Both transceivers can be interfaced with multiple antenna tuning units, matching all kinds of existing antennas – loop, wire or notch.

The SRT-400 and the SRT-200 low power variant combine high flexibility and simplified operations in a reduced size and weight package, achieved through innovative electrical and mechanical design.
