£30 Million Facility to be Fully Operational by 2023
Leonardo will shortly begin building a new advanced helicopter single-site logistics (SSL) hub at the company’s site in Yeovil, England, the company announced on 16 June.
The £30 million (€35 million) facility will cover almost 20,000 sq m and will consolidate eight existing warehouses into a single all-encompassing logistics hub. It will entail a reduction in operating costs and will maximise the potential for helicopter component logistics. Heavily focused on sustainability, the hub will feature rainwater harvesting, LED lighting and heat recovery technologies, as well as having a bank of electric vehicle charging points.
The site will be operated under a new ten-year contract with Kuehne+Nagel, to include an investment in plant and equipment installation and warehousing transition activity by the global transport and logistics company. The facility is expected to be fully operational in 2023. It will service the Yeovil production facilities, provide spares support for the helicopters built there and support the management of production tooling.
“The main aim of the Single-Site Logistics facility […] is to consolidate all Yeovil-based warehousing. This state-of-the-art facility will streamline the site’s operational capability and customer service, by having all logistical support in one place. It highlights further Leonardo’s long-term commitment to its Yeovil site through the strategic development of this high-tech logistics hub. It also demonstrates the importance of key industry partnerships through our crucial collaboration with Kuehne+Nagel,” commented Nick Whitney, Managing Director of Leonardo Helicopters (UK).
