Avon Protection’s FM50 Already Used By Multiple Militaries
Avon Protection will supply the armed forces of Latvia with its FM50 respiratory face masks and CBRN protection system.
The contract award follows the signing of a 10-year deal, in 2020, with NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency for the system, which has also been bought by the armed forces of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Norway, among others. Since then, the company says, it has received orders for over 200,000 masks and has provided training to multiple NATO users.
The FM50 mask offers protection for more than 36 hours against a range of agents, including mustard gas, sarin and VX. The wide field of view is not at the expense of versatility and customisation options: visor outserts are available in a number of variants, including BlueBlocker, Breaching and Laser. These provide, respectively, sharper images to improve weapon sighting; additional eye protection during plasma arc cutting; and protection from the harmful wavelengths generated by laser-sighted weapons.
“We are proud to continue supporting NATO in enhancing CBRN capability and enabling greater interoperability among coalition nations,” said Steve Elwell, Avon Protection VP. “The growth of both new partners to the framework such as Latvia and increasing deployment of capability to existing partners demonstrates the continued confidence and reliance on Avon Protection to supply products of the highest quality and performance to protect armed forces around the world.”
