Brazilian Army Requires 24-32 Attack Helicopters by 2031
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) is conducting flight demonstrations of its T129 ATAK helicopter in Brazil, taking advantage of its participation in LAAD 2019.
As well as Rio de Janeiro, demonstrations will be staged for the authorities in Tabaté – at Fort Ricardo Kirk, headquarters of Brazilian Army Aviation (AVEX) and in the federal capital Brasília. The AVEX Testing and Evaluation Group (GEA), already conducted testing of the T129 in Turkey last November as part of the Army Strategic Programme. This defines a series of long-term actions to be undertaken by AVEX, including the acquisition of new utility and attack helicopters and new weapon systems. To date, GEA has evaluated the A129 MANGUSTA, the AH-1Z VIPER and the Mi-28NE. The current expectation is that AVEX will acquire an attack helicopter capability consisting of 24-32 helicopters around 2031.
