Velocity, Tracking and Missile Defence Radars and Fire Direction
Specialised in the development of advanced Doppler radar systems for over 35 years, Danish manufacturer Weibel Scientific will impress upon visitors to LAAD 2019 the breadth of its solutions portfolio. The company has delivered over 4,000 radars to more than 40 countries and its radars have secured safety for NASA astronauts since 2005. “Only the laws of physics limit the possibilities of our radar systems,” the company proudly proclaims.
Tactical Muzzle Velocity Radars
Designed to measure muzzle velocity on mortars, artillery and direct-firing guns, these radars self-calibrate and help minimise error and dispersion from gun barrel wear and tear, temperature and humidity differences in propellants and variations in projectile weight. Weibel has delivered more than 3,500 tactical muzzle velocity radars to 20 countries.
Velocity Radars
Weibel has spent the past 30 years developing and fine-tuning these compact, highly reliable and easily transportable radar systems. They provide accurate measurement of velocity over time and thus provide insight into the properties of all kinds of moving objects. To date, Weibel has delivered more than 700 systems worldwide.
Tracking radars
These radars are designed for precise measurements, detailed debris tracking, and range safety systems for conventional and missile tests and space launches. The systems can be provided as ‘tracking only,’ or with a ranging capability, using Weibel’s CW, MF-CW and CW/FM-CW waveforms for optimal performance. Coupling the radars to other optical sensors maximises Time-Space-Position Information (TSPI) tracking accuracy and can provide high-resolution imagery. The radars range from man-portable through transportable to trailer-mounted or fixed installation systems.
Fire Directors
Weibel’s fire directors are all-weather fire control systems (FCS) that enhance the performance of traditional electro-optical FCS by providing a tracking radar in combination with a full electro-optical sensor suite in a compact and light-weight design. The all-weather capability improves long-range target tracking and is compatible with any naval gun in all kinds of weather.
Integrated Air and Missile Defence (IAMD) Radars
Weibel’s IAMD radars use the company’s X-band pedigree to build radars that combine air surveillance and tracking in one system. The technology – as delivered to the US Navy, NASA and the Indonesian Air Force, among others – provides high accuracy long-range tracking and discrimination for ballistic missile defence to facilitate ‘engage on remote’ and ‘launch on remote’ operational scenarios They provide detailed tracking data for ground control intercept or weapons engagement, and can offer aerial movement mapping in counter-drug operation missions.
