Identification of drugs, explosives, chemical agents, and radioactivity
Thermo Fisher Scientific presents its portable and laboratory analytical instrumentation lines for the identification of drugs, explosives, chemical agents, and radioactivity at LAAD 2017.
“Thermo Fisher solutions that are used by customers already contributed significantly to the security and defense markets in Europe and North America,” Flávio Guimarães, Thermo Fisher Scientific’s director of the chemical analysis segment in Latin America, explained. “It is this experience we bring to Latin America to provide technologies that help the region’s security forces to perform their work more quickly and effectively.”
Instruments like TruNarc Handheld Narcotics Analyzer, Gemini FTIR/Raman Handheld Analyzer, RIIDEYE X/M Series Handheld Radiation Isotope Identifiers and RadEye PRD/PRD-ER Personal Radiation Detector are among the highlights of the company’s portfolio. Thermo Fisher Scientific also has FT-IR and x-ray solutions for forensic and ballistics analysis.
TruNarc Handheld Narcotics Analyzer: This instrument is ideal for the identification of narcotics. TruNarc is a portable device that allows an instant analysis of more than 300 substances like cocaine, ecstasy, among others, without the need of direct contact for most examples. The analysis is performed using Raman spectrometry technology and is already in use worldwide such as the United States, Chile, Mexico, among others.
Gemini FTIR/Raman Handheld Analyzer: The Gemini is a complete device, suitable for situations of chemical and explosive threats. By combining Raman and FTIR (infrared analysis) technologies, the device can identify a wide range of solid and liquid chemicals such as explosives or chemical weapons, delivering clear, color-coded results.
RIIDEye X/M Series Handheld Radiation Isotope Identifiers: RIIDEye has high sensitivity technology in the identification of radioactive materials. Its system detects gamma rays and neutrons in the same equipment, allowing a quick and accurate analysis by the security forces, so that in a situation of risk, they can make quick decisions, and assemble more effective action plans.
RadEye PRD/PRD-ER Personal Radiation Detector: RadEye is a portable radiation detector capable of detecting and locating radioactive material in any environment. The apparatus performs gamma radiation dose rates and has a better response time compared to any Gieger meter. It offers different types of alarm for low and high energies. In Brazil, it was used by the security forces at the last major sports event in Rio de Janeiro to identify possible threats.
