LAAD 2019: SEA and SIATT Partner to Pursue Market Expansion

MoU Aims at Exploiting Synergies in Expertise and Innovation

At LAAD 2019 in Rio de Janeiro on 2 April British engineering firm SEA based and wholly Brazilian-owned defence company SIATT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at establishing a basis for the two companies to work closely together. The objective, according to a joint statement, is “to develop a strategically important relationship to pursue routes to market for defence equipment and services in Brazil.”

SEA employs approx. 300 staff at several UK locations and provides an extensive product and service range, engineering solutions and in-service support to the defence sector, both in the UK and to markets worldwide, including Asia, South America and Australia. High on the list of products and services that have reinforced the company’s reputation for reliability and customer-centric solution provision are its lightweight torpedo launch systems, state-of-the-art crew training solutions and innovative thin-line sonar arrays, from which the company has developed the KRAIT Defence System, a complete anti-submarine warfare solution for smaller vessels. The company has been part of Cohort plc since 2007.

SIATT, located in the São José dos Campos Technological Park, benefits from the facilities of Brazil`s largest innovation and entrepreneurship complex , which houses manufacturing facilities, a business centre, technological  development centres, universities and sophisticated laboratories. The company, which specialises in intelligent weapon systems and the integration of high technology systems, employs approx. 60 staff, many of whom are engineers.

SEA intends to bring the best of the industry’s technology to Brazil, transferring its knowledge to SIATT’s personnel to expand manufacturing, assembly and test capability in the local market,” observed SEA’s Managing Director, Steve Hill. “This strategically important partnership will help us expand our operations in Brazil, providing mutual benefits for SEA, SIATT and the Brazilian defence industry, which will have access to SEA’s leading products, including agnostic torpedo launcher systems, decoy launcher systems simulation and training services, and thin line arrays [….] As a company focused on the high-tech market, SIATT’s knowledge in the design, development, manufacturing and installation of hardware and software systems will be invaluable to SEA. There are many synergies between our companies in terms of expertise and innovation, and we are looking forward to what will be a mutually-beneficial partnership.”

The MoU between SEA and SIATT gives us the opportunity to expand our existing capabilities within the Brazilian defence market which, as a wholly Brazilian-owned company, is extremely important to us. SEA’s global presence and links to the worldwide defence market can only be beneficial for SIATT, while our complex high technology focus and speciality defence products will enhance SEA’s offering,” stated SIATT Commercial Director, Rogerio Salvador.
