Modular, Versatile and Multi-Role
Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) will be offering visitors to LAAD 2019 in Rio de Janeiro this week a look at the company’s newest advanced multi-purpose assault rifle in 5.56x45mm calibre, the CARMEL.
Ideally suited for extended combat duration, the CARMEL features special steels, aviation grade aluminium and high impact polymers for high performance in small unit operations across a wide range of environments. With a rotating bolt system, ensuring maximum shooter safety, the rifle is fully ambidextrous and is equipped for MIL STD 1913 Picatinny rails at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions for accessory mounting. It is designed for minimal user and armourer-level maintenance, thus reducing operational costs and uses any NATO or MIL STD aluminium or polymer magazines.
The hammer-forged, chrome-lined, free-floating barrel, a short-stroke gas piston and three position gas regulator, accompanied by a jump compensator described as “significantly efficient,” make for greatly improved shooting stability, according to the manufacturer.
