LAAD 2017: EXPAL Highlights Munitions Range

Complete Mortar and Artillery Munitions Solutions

With solutions in service in Latin America for over half a century, EXPAL is highlighting its range of ammunition and propellants – one of the most extensive on the market – at LAAD 2017 in Rio de Janeiro this week. It also offers visitors a closer look at its latest developments in weapon systems and technological applications.

One example of EXPAL’s technology lies in its mortar systems, currently in service in over 35 armed forces around the world. Covering 60, 81 and 120mm calibres and ammunition types including HE, training, visible and IR obscurants and illuminating rounds, the EXPAL mortar solution has matured in recent years and now offers users lightweight mortars, ammunition and propellants that optimise performance and offer superior reach. Ancillary systems such as the TECHFIRE fire computing and control system and the SIMOX indirect fire support tactical simulator, as well as deployment options that include the EIMOS vehicle-mounted 81 mm mortar, further complete and enhance the company’s offerings in this field.

The company’s other major reference area lies in its expertise in artillery ammunition, in which it has developed its own family of extended range munitions, already operational in Latin America. Using base bleed technology, the family offers ranges of up to 20km for the L118 Light gun and 17km for systems such as the M101/33 or L119, including HE, visible and IR obscurants and illumination rounds. EXPAL covers the entire life cycle of ammunition from design and development through production and support to demilitarisation and recycling. All components are entirely manufactured by EXPAL< ensuring quality and integration control.

In Brazil, EXPAL has a series of agreements in place with major local companies aimed at ensuring security of supply for effective, reliable solutions to Brazilian and regional customers. A key example is the plant for demilitarisation, recycling and recovery of munitions and components operated in collaboration with Brazilian company EMGEPRON.
