Showcasing KC-390 & Super TUCANO
Embraer Defense & Security and its affiliate companies in Pavilion 3 (N22) of the Riocentro convention center, promotes the new KC-390 multi-mission transport aircraft and the A-29 Super TUCANO light attack and advanced trainer turboprop, along with a broad range of integrated solutions for applications in defence, security and space.
The KC-390 is a new multi-mission, medium-lift transport aircraft that was designed to set new standards in its category, while presenting the lowest life-cycle cost on the market, according to the company. “The KC-390 is faster and carries more payload than other aircraft in the segment, being capable of transporting up to 26 metric tons of cargo at a maximum speed of 470 knots (870 km/h), with the ability to operate in austere environments, including on unpaved or damaged runways,” the company says at LAAD.
The flight test campaign of the KC-390 is progressing extremely well, validating the aircraft’s design goals of performance and capacity, defined through advanced engineering tools. Recently, Embraer and the Brazilian Air Force successfully completed the first dry contact (without fuel transfer) between the KC-390 and F-5M fighters (see story here). The flight test campaign will now focus on the initial operational capability declaration (IOC), expected for the second half of 2017, and on the certification of the final operational capability (FOC), in the second half of 2018.
