Developed In-House from Experience with OPV-80

Colombia’s COTECMAR shipyard promoted its new OPV Mk-II design at the Colombiamar 2017 trade fair in Cartagena de Indias last month.

Intended as the second generation of a vessel for Exclusive Economic Zone patrol missions, the design, based on the experience COTECMAR gained with the three OPV-80 class vessels it built at Cartagena, demonstrates the increasing levels of innovation the shipyard is bringing to all its projects.

The new vessel has a length of 93m, beam of 14m and depth of 4.1m and will be classified as an auxiliary naval ship, with a flight deck for medium helicopters, displacement of 2,550t, maximum speed of 20kts, a 10,000nmi mile range and a crew of 64 men (+36). It will be armed with an Oto Melara (Leonardo) 76/62 COMPACT as well as a THOR DYNAMIC T25 remote weapon station (RWS) located on top of the hangar, mounting an Orbital ATK M242 BUSHMASTER 25mm cannon, as well as another two THOR DYNAMIC T12 RWS mounting Browning M-2 12.7mm machine guns, all of these being integrated and operated by the Daret BARRACUDA Naval Shooting and Combat Management System.
