Kongsberg K-Sim to Fill Increased Demand Due to New Ship Classes

Kongsberg Digital has been contracted to deliver two new K-Sim full mission bridge (FMB) simulators to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), adding to the several shiphandling and engine room simulators the company has delivered to RAN training establishments around the country.

The requirement for expansion and intensification of the RAN’s training programme is the result of a sustained period of growth and capability enhancement for the navy, whose shipbuilding programme is currently fully occupied with construction of new HUNTER-class anti-submarine frigates and ARAFURA-class offshore patrol vessels. The service is also taking delivery of two SUPPLY-class auxiliary oiler/replenishment (AOR) vessels.

The acquisition of new ship classes has caused a spike in demand within the RAN’s training pipeline, which Kongsberg is accommodating with the new FMB simulators at the navy’s primary navigation training facility at Watsons Bay. The simulators will be used for on-going training of officers and sailors undertaking all levels of shiphandling, navigation, warfare, and bridge management courses.
