Also Receives LANDCRUISERs from UN
The Kenyan Police Air Wing took delivery of a Mil Mi-17V-5 multirole helicopter from Russian Helicopters at Wilson Airport in Nairobi on 29 March. The force now operates three Mi-17s, with a further example expected to be delivered before the end of April. At least five pilots have been trained on the type to date.
The four-year old National Police Service Modernisation Programme has concentrated much of its attention on enhancing the Air Wing’s capabilities in supporting counter-terrorism operations around Kenya. The force lost an AW139 last year and that keenly felt loss is now partially offset by the additional Mils.
The National Police Service has also taken delivery of 43 Toyota LANDCRUISER 4×4 single cab patrol vehicles, donated by the UN High Commission for Refugees and intended for policing operations around the Dadab and Kakuma refugee camps.
