Radar Plans for New Philippines Frigates
Kelvin Hughes has told MONS that it will supply two radars for each of the two new frigates which Hyundai has under construction for the Philippines Navy. The Republic of Korea company won a contract to supply a pair of new frigates to the force as part of the Philippines Navy Frigate Acquisition Programme in October 2016, with the handover of the first vessel expected for 2020, according to media reports.
On 23rd October, Kelvin Hughes announced that it would be providing two of its SharpEye navigation radars, along with bridge displays to equip these new vessels. The company has since told MONS that each ship will receive one SharpEye X-band (8.5 gigahertz/GHz to 10.68GHz) and one SharpEye S-band (2.3GHz to 2.5GHz/2.7GHz to 3.7GHz) radar. Kelvin Hughes added that all four radars will be delivered to Hyundai for installation on the new frigates between 2018 and 2019.
