X-Band and S-Band Radar from a Single Radar Head
Budget constraints and acquisition of sophisticated radar surveillance capabilities often work against each other for maritime security authorities. One frequent compromise is the necessity to make a choice between X-band and S-band radar frequencies.
Kelvin Hughes addresses this problem in the SBS-900-4 SharpEye radar, which can operate in both bands using co-located antennae. The SBS-900-4 is unique among shore-based sensors in providing this capability. Deployed solo or as part of a radar sensor network, the radar applies Doppler processing to provide superior target detection in the harshest weather conditions, including low-level airborne targets.
Described as a, “significantly differentiated,” solution for the coastal surveillance and Vessel Traffic Service management roles by the company’s Sales and Marketing Director, Spike Hughes, SBS-900-4 is already attracting significant interest from existing and new potential customers.
