Kazakhstan to Receive Winterised ARLANs

Kazakhstan SOF ARLANS equipped with various auxiliary equipment

Paramount Group and Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering (KPE, a joint venture between Paramount Group and Kazakhstan Engineering Distribution), recently delivered the latest batch of armoured vehicles to the Kazakhstan Special Operations Forces (SOF) as the company’s local manufacturing facilities continues to accelerate production.

The latest delivery of the localised version of the MARAUDER MRAP, the ARLAN, will see the vehicles in operation with the Ministry of Defence, Special Forces and other law enforcement agencies. The company has already started production on the next large order for ARLANs with further deliveries expected during 2018.

In less than two years we have built a new state-of-art armoured vehicle factory from the ground up, we transferred skills to establish a highly efficient local workforce, we industrialised a new vehicle, and now we are ramping up production as we further increase deliveries to our customers,” Ivor Ichikowitz, Group Chairman of Paramount Group, said. “This is a major achievement of which we are very proud of. It shows that our portable production model works. It shows that with the right partners we can set up production anywhere in the world and deliver world-class technologies to our customers in a fast and efficient way. “

The 15,000m2 KPE armoured vehicle factory, established in 2013 in the Kazakh capital Astana, is one of the largest armoured vehicle factories in Central Asia and “the first defence manufacturing plant with this scale of capability in Kazakhstan,” according to the company, having a capacity of more than 200 vehicles per year for the production of the world’s most advanced armoured vehicles to meet the regional demand for land systems technologies. Production of the ARLAN began in 2015.

The ARLAN vehicle is the localised variant of the Paramount Group’s MARAUDER MRAP multi-role vehicle. The ARLAN has undergone extensive testing in extreme conditions and environments across Kazakhstan, followed by a design phase at Paramount Group’s Innovation Centre to fully “winterise” the vehicles, which included some of the following features: additional heating of the crew cabin, changing specifications of all fluids, lubricants and fuels to an all season type covering a range of 100 degrees Celsius from -50° to +50° Celsius and heated ballistic windows.

Kazak SOF ARLANs are equipped with various auxiliary equipment inclusive of various special communication suites, other electronics, roof mounted wire cutting blades and a barricade breaker blade mounted to the front of the vehicle, which is hydraulically operated from the driver station. Some of the other features installed include night vision equipment, IR cameras, a laptop station and GPS.

The ARLAN multirole armouredvehicle features a monocoque-type armoured design for the crew compartment. The armour provides mine protection up to 8kg of TNT (STANAG 4569 Level 3b) anywhere under the hull and 14 kg TNT (greater than STANAG 4569 Level 4a) for a blast under any wheel and can withstand shots from any small arms with 7.62mm calibre armour-piercing rounds, DRAGUNOV sniper rifle and 12.7mm caliber NATO standard rounds. The first vehicles built by KPE entered service in 2016. In January 2016, Jordan has signed a military cooperation with Kazakhstan for the purchase of 50 ARLAN multirole armoured vehicles.
