José Manuel Fernández Bosch appointed CEO of EXPAL Systems

Will Steer Continuing Process of Transformation to Global Defence Firm

MAXAM announced on 23 June that, with effect from 1 July, José Manuel Fernández Bosch will join its Board of Directors in the capacity of General Manager and CEO of the Group’s defence business, EXPAL Systems, replacing Padro Sallent, who has led EXPAL for the last five years and is now leaving the company.

With more than 25 years’ experience as a leader in listed companies and international consulting firms, Fernández Bosch is, until joining EXPAL Systems, a Partner at the international consulting firm Arthur D Little. Previously, he was General Manager of the non-regulated business of Aena, contributing to the transformation process of the Company between 2012-2019, including its IPO in 2015. He has also been CEO of Aena International and a Partner in international consulting firm Boston Consulting Group in 2000-2011. He is a Telecommunications Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and has an MBA from IESE.

He joins EXPAL with the aim of piloting its strategic development and reinforcing its growth, advancing transformation of the business from a company specialized in ammunition to a global defence firm. His abilities to manage transformation processes will be key to achieving the objectives set for EXPAL Systems in coming years.

EXPAL Systems offers high-end technology products, services and solutions to meet the current and future needs of armed forces on the ground, in the air and at sea. A trusted ally in over 60 countries, adding safety, precision and advanced systems to any mission, EXPAL manages the entire life-cycle of ammunition, from R&D and manufacturing through maintenance and integration services, to leading demilitarization solutions.

MAXAM, founded by Alfred Nobel in 1872, specializes in design, development, manufacture and application of energetic materials. It structures its activity into four business units: blasting solutions for mining, quarries and civil works; cartridges and gunpowder for use in hunting and sport shooting; products and systems for the defence and security sector; and production of key raw materials in nitro chemical activity. Its fiscal year 2019 turnover reached €1,129 million.
