APUs and Turret Stabilisations Systems for Polish Modernisation Programme
Jenoptik Defence & Civil Systems is to supply auxiliary power units (APUs) and weapon/turret stabilisation systems for the Polish LEOPARD 2 modernisation programme, the company announced on 20 March. The contracts, valued at €10.6 million, are due for completion by 2020.
The contracts, awarded at the beginning of this year, call for Jenoptik to deliver 126 17kW APUs to ZM Bumar Labedy and a further seven to prime contractor Rheinmetall Defence. In addition, ten electric turret and weapon stabilisation systems are to be delivered to Rheinmetall.
The stabilisation systems replace the hydraulic systems used to date and are for the most part maintenance-free and generate less heat inside the tank, steadily aligning the turret and weapon while the tank is in motion. The compact APUs reliably generate electrical energy for the on-board systems in the smallest possible space while the engine is switched off.
